EastNet FlexNet Network News July 21,
2001
The EastNet FlexNet Network continues to grow here in the
North East States
region. New FlexNet-Digi nodes are in the process of
being built, existing
systems are undergoing changes and upgrades. The DX
Cluster network continues
to be integrated with the regular backbone network.
The most recent activity was completed yesterday July 20th
both in the
Northern New Jersey and the South East New York areas.
Northern New Jersey:
A new UHF 9k6 port was added to the WA2SNA Flex-Digi at
Ramapo Mtn, Oakland,
NJ. This is the beginning of a new 9k6 network route
through Northern New
Jersey on into the Eastern Central Pennsylvania area. The
first hop to a new
site which is now operational is to the NJDXA K2RW site
at Randolph, Morris
County, NJ (next paragraph). From there the next hop will
be to the existing
N2QAE site at Schooleys, Mountain, Western Morris County,
NJ followed by the
existing N2QAE-10 site at Montana Mountain, Warren
County, NJ, then on into
the CEPA area to the existing WB3DTG site at Bethlehem,
Northampton County, PA
and the new K3CC site at Kempton, Lehigh County, PA. All
of these 9k6 links
will be new and are under construction.
A new Flex-Digi K2RW-2 is now on line at Randolph, Morris
County, NJ. This is
the hub site of the NJDXA Packet Cluster Nodes. There are
two servers at this
site. K2RW is the DX Cluster Node running on a separate
PC wire linked at
19k2 to a port on the K2RW-2 Flex-Digi PC which is also
running the new K2RW-4
NJDXA F6FBB Packet Bulletin Board system. The K2RW-4 PBBS
can send and
receive world wide via the PBBS network including via the
Mid-Atlantic
Satellite Gateway and North East States HF Gateways. It
can be used as a
means of the transfer of message traffic to/from the DX
Cluster message system
and the regular PBBS message system used world wide.
Other ports on the K2RW-
2 Flex-Digi currently operational are: 9k6 to WA2SNA Flex-Digi
at Oakland,
Bergen County, NJ and 1k2 to the K2SG Packet Cluster Node.
Other ports still
under construction are 9k6 to the W2JT Packet Cluster
Node at North Caldwell,
Essex County, NJ, 9k6 to the K2GX Packet Cluster Node at
Manhattan, NY and 1k2
backup link to both the WA2SNA Flex-Digi at Oakland and
the W2JT Packet
Cluster Node at North Caldwell, NJ. Later on K2SG which
has the DX feed from
SEPA is expected to shut down. By then the continuation
of the new links via
the N2QAE Flex-Digi at Schooleys and Montana will be
available to provide a
means for the DX feed from SEPA.
New UHF 9k6 links to/from the K2RW Flex-Digi at Randolph,
N2QAE Flex-Digi at
Schooleys Mtn and the N2QAE-10 Flex-Digi at Montana known
as phase 2 of this
project are now under construction. Goal is to get them
done this fall before
the winter is upon us.
A new UHF 9k6 3Way is under construction in The CEPA area.
This will provide
connectivity to/from the N2QAE-10 site at Montana
Mountain, Warren County, NJ,
the existing WB3DTG Flex-Digi at Bethlehem, PA and the
new K3CC Flex-Digi at
Kempton, PA. The WB3DTG site includes a PBBS and an HF
Gateway. The W3CC site
server will be a new DX Cluster Node. The DX feed from
the SEPA (K3WW) could
connect to an existing port at the N2QAE-10 site at
Montana Mtn or at the new
link to the new K3CC site at Kempton, PA
South Eastern New York:
The existing mixed call NetRom node site at Clove
Mountain, Lagranngeville,
Dutchess County, NY was converted to a three port FlexNet-Digi
on July 20,
2001. It is now operational under the N2CJ call. The user
port is on 145.09
MHz. The Region port is operating on 441.100 MHz., 1k2,
providing
connectivity to the N2SQW Flex-Digi at Athens, Greene
County, NY, the WA2YSM
Flex-Digi at Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY and soon
once again to the
KA2MSL-8 Flex-Digi at Stewart Airport, Orange County, NY.
Also a new Flex-
Digi with a port on the 441.100 channel is under
construction at Bloominburg,
Sullivan County, NY. That is N2DBD. The remaining port on
the N2CJ Flex-Digi
is to WA2UMH at Spruce Mountain, Saratoga County, NY.
The call has changed from K1DF to WA2YSM on the existing
Flex-Digi at
Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY. This site includes the
WA2YSM-4 PBBS.
Other Activity in the South Central New York Region:
A new Flex-Digi KB3BIU and PBBS KB3BIU-4 is under
construction at Binghamton,
Broome County, NY. It will link to the WA3LWR Flex-Digi
at Scranton,
Lackawanna County, PA, via the existing 223.54 1k2 NEPA
Region channel and
via a new UHF 9k6 link to a new FlexNet-Digi KB2FAF at
Cortland, Cortland
County, NY also under construction.
Updated Packet maps showing these network changes amd
plans will be released
soon via separate messages.
An updated Flexnet Destination reference list will also
be released in a
separate message.
73, Bob.
